Black Out -         Order given by the Black Wing to douse the lights and torches when trouble is                                            anticipated.

 

Brennens -           A breed of horse used for herding cattle, sturdy and sure-footed.

 

Desert Rattler –   A poisonous yellow-and-red striped snake.

 

Djaran -              Gypsies who travel as nomads with tents and camels, a murderous group.

Garunsi -              Desert farmers who built permanent settlements around a well or an oasis,                                                   known for their fanciful mosaic covered thatched huts, woodcrafts, and                                                         ceremonial masks.

 

Gathering, the -   The term used by the Eagle, Wolf, and Ravens clans when they come together at                                         a battlefield to strip the dead

 

Gazel -                 Jaelle’s horse; an Andorran.

 

Ghajar -             Gypsies who travel in caravans and live in wagons, love music and dancing.

 

Griego -             Term used by Ghajar to describe outsiders.

 

Kordive -            Rolands horse; a bay Morgenstern gelding.

 

Lenora -             Daughter of the Duke of Garridan.

 

Lorians -             The Old Ones, fairy folk.

 

Lumeister Tea -  Known for its soothing properties, settles upset stomachs, and cures                                                     headaches.

 

Moon Side -      A polite way of saying you're Wolfen in upper Wolf Clan society.

 

Morgenstern -      Breed of draft horses preferred by knights for their size, ability to carry                                              great weight and endurance.

 

Night Breed -     Name the Wolfen call werewolves, cousins of their kind.

 

Pangian Sea -    The western sea.

Inquisitors -        Two hundred years ago, they rounded up and killed all magic users by order                                      of  King Magnus.

Tritone -         A type of merman, able to assume the appearance of a human, and requires an                                 annual trip to the sea to dip their tail; they have large tails and turquoise scales.

 

Urall Ocean -  Northwestern Ocean

 

Wolfen -             A form of lycanthropy inherited from Varg, a supernatural wolf, owned by the                                    war god Ragnal; all members are infected with a bite; able to turn into                                               monstrous creatures or wolves. This transformation and their barbaric,                                                 cannibalistic rites are kept secret from society.
